NL East Notables:
The Phillies got revenge on the Reds by scoring a winning run of their own in the ninth, winning 3-2. Rodrigo Lopez allowed two runs on five hits in five innings for the Phillies, who still sit two games ahead of the Marlins. Shane Victorino had two hits and an RBI and Jayson Werth hit his 19th homer of the season.
The Marlins got a little revenge of their own on the Giants, avoiding a sweep by cranking out a 7-0 win. Chris Volstad was the highlight of the East yesterday, pitching a complete game shutout, giving up five hits while not walking any and striking out six. Dan Uggla had a homer and three RBIs, and Emilio Bonifacio and Jorge Cantu added two hits and an RBI each.
The Mets held off a late rally to even the series with the Dodgers, winning 5-4. Oliver Perez walked seven in five innings but only allowed four hits and two runs. David Wright and Jeremy Reed each had two hits and an RBI. Manny Ramirez homered for the Dodgers and Rafael Furcal added two hits and an RBI.
Braves MiL Notables:
AAA Gwinnett (46-41) scored a run in the ninth to beat Durham, 7-6. Kelly Johnson hit a three-run home run in his second rehab start. Antonio Perez went 4-5 and scored twice. Mariano Gomez pitched four scoreless innings behind starter Tony Armas.
